ROUND THE TABLE
A round table conference of Deans & Directors of the northern region Management Institutes was held on 24th October 2009 at Shiva Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), Ghaziabad. The theme was “Internationalization of Management Education – Issues, Challenges, and Opportunities – Proactive Role of B-Schools”.
This was in collaboration with Association of Indian Management Schools(AIMS)
- Dr. Abad Ahmad, Past President, AIMS, chaired the session. The other speakers were
- Dr. C. S. Venkataratnam, Director General, IMI, Delhi.
- Dr. B. S. Sahay, Director, MDI, Gurgaon.
- Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar Inst. of Mgt. Dev. & Research, Mumbai.
The main objective was to discuss the multi-dimensional impact of the entry of foreign business schools on business schools in India. The conference was held under the auspices of Association of Indian Managements Schools (AIMS) which was established in 1988. It is the proud moment for the people of N.C.R region in general and the people of Ghaziabad in particular that Director SIMS Dr Shefali Gautam in the 22 year history of AIMS has taken over as the first women President of AIMS. About thirty (30) Deans and Directors of leading Management Institutes participated in the conference. Present AIMS President and SIMS Director Dr Shefali Gautam, welcomed the guests and introduced the theme of the conference. The Conference was started with the lighting of the lamp and chanting of Saraswati Vandana by the students of SIMS. The conference was chaired by Prof Abad Ahmad , Past President AIMS and Ex-Pro Vice Chancellor University of Delhi. Main speakers in this conference were Prof CS Venkataratnam (Director General, IMI, Delhi), Dr BS Sahay ( Director, MDI, Gurgaon) , and Dr Uday Salunkhe ( Group Director, Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai ).
Following distinguished guests participated: Prof Prabir Pal , Director (RCM Bhubneswar); Prof M.R Rao , Dean Emeritus (ISB Hyderabad); Father R. D’Souza, (MIHCM Goa); Fr P.T Joseph , Director (VGSM/IIT Kharagpur); Dr D.Y.Patil , Director (BVIMD&R Navi Mumbai); Dr R.Nandagopal, Director (PSGIM Coimbatore); Prof D.S.Rao, Director (ICFAIBS Hyderabad), Prof Mohd Masood Ahmed, Principle (DSM Hyderabad); Dr Smarajit Dey (SI NIIT Ltd, New Delhi); Dr R.C.Bhattacharya , Director (GBS Kolkata); Prof R.K.Misra, Director (IPE Hyderabad).
Distinguished speakers explained that because of internationalization of the industry and the service sector MNC are hiring from India for their global operations. Similarly Indian companies are hiring for local and global operation. Thus the need of the hour is to provide world-class education with international curriculum and practical exposure and to compete we need to have: Global faculty, students, curriculum, research programs, multi-location campuses and over and above global mindset.
The grand success of the round-table-conference was made possible with the outstanding efforts of SIMS family.
